Queen Brit Takes Hat-Trick!

Brits sensation Duffy triumphed at the awards. The smoky-voiced siren from north Wales took three top gongs as she won best album, best British female solo artist and best breakthrough act.

The 24-year-old singer-songwriter’s success overshadowed Coldplay’s failure as they walked away empty-handed despite being nominated for four awards.

Less than a month after they scooped three Grammys in the US, Chris Martin’s band were snubbed by the British music industry. But a clearly-elated Duffy was the night’s big winner as, close to tears, she said she was going to “keep it together” while she thanked the British public.

“I can’t tell you what this means after five years, thank you so much,” she said. Earlier, wearing a red dress with a plunging neckline, she also drew rousing applause with her performance of Warwick Avenue.
