Whitney stands staring at the man who’s been shadowing her movements around Walford for the last few months. She’s a little taken aback that her mother Debra knows him, revealing his name as Ryan. Debra insists that she used to work with him and maintains that he’s dangerous and shouldn’t be trusted. Whitney, however, jumps to his defence, recalling his heroic actions when the café exploded. Ryan, meanwhile, explains that he wanted to get to know his half-sister a little better before revealing his connection to her. Eager to hammer her point home, Debra reveals that she has a knife of Ryan’s in her possession as he used it in a fight and needed somebody to hide it. The actor has started to notice the effects of bad eating habits in recent years and now worries about the possible impact on his career.

“I’m 32 this year and I’m looking down at my belly now,” Dyer told Celebs On Sunday magazine. “I used to be able to eat anything I wanted - like four chocolate eclairs while watching telly or something - but it’s catching up with me now.

“The gym’s boring, but I’m gonna have to go. I want to tone up. Not for birds - I’m happy with my missus Jo - but to get work.”

Dyer recently turned down a role in EastEnders following discussions with the BBC soap’s producers.
